Brain Blast!!
By The Chef | October 4, 2007
I had a WONDERFUL brain blast this afternoon. Those of you with kids who watch Jimmy Neutron will recognize that as a “light bulb above your head” moment. I had a great idea!
My Jake is struggling with some digestion problems, and some weight problems. He also has scoliosis–poor kid–what plague is next?? Anyway–my thought was this…
I’m going to make smaller portions at dinner. You know–leave the kids a little hungry and then close the kitchen! Well, not really–I’m going to have my vegetable tray chock full of freshly sliced cucumbers, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and grape tomatoes. I should remind you that my kids love vegetables and if we are at a party–they never leave the relish tray. So I’m just going to make it the only thing available to finish filling them up. It will be out after school as well. I do have to say–I’m not thinking there will be a dip–I don’t really want that carried around my house–and I don’t think I’ll add olives. They are high in calories–and I would rather they fill up on the other items.
I’m hoping with these smarter choices for snacking and a little less “food” will help not only his weight, but with the fiber I’m hoping his bowels will get back into shape as well!
I can’t wait to start tomorrow!!

My Lucas had digestion problems, well still does sometimes, even with his picky eating stages. It was a tough road to follow … only I think Lucas had the opposite problem you’re having there. With the running quickly and the mess to clean up afterward.
Poor little Jake. That’s a lot to be going on for such a cute little guy.

Hah, very clever idea to keep your kids healthy. It is much better than letting them fill up on coke and candy all day.
