    Budgeting The Kitchen!!

    By The Chef | August 16, 2007

Everyone has ideas on how to save money in the kitchen. With us going into a strict budget period–I really need to sit down and figure it out for our family. We are cutting out all of the junk–I know–easier said than done, but I really do plan to. We are going to move to easier meals–more like folks had in the olden days. For example dinner tonight, a grilled chicken breast with melted mozzarella cheese over the top, steamed broccoli and a salad. Nothing more. It should be filling with enough protein and fiber to keep my kids going without packing on the calories. So dinners like that–no more heavy sauces that are tasty, but full of calories. We already have a salad/sandwich schedule in our menu–I may work on the sandwich menu–to bring it down–and on the salads I need to make sure we aren’t just dumping on the fat–however, when you eat such a big serving of salads–the fats generally go down with the fiber–so I may not have to worry too much about that!

I would love to be skilled in the art of coupon shopping. But in this area, it seems to be a dying trend. Gone are the double coupon days of yester-year when a skilled woman could walk in to the grocery store with her list and her coupons–and walk out with a basket of groceries having spent a total of $7.50! That is what I want to learn!!

Anyone with ideas out there–I’ll take them all!!
